Kathiani seeks Wavinya's successor

Voting pattern in Kathiani constituency of Machakos County will would be affected by the geographical origin of candidates as several of them hail from the same locality therefore are likely to share votes. More than nine aspirants both old and young have declared interest since the incumbent Wavinya Ndeti is going for governorship.

 Some of the candidates have not yet announced the parties they intend to use as their vehicle to parliament with Frankline Makola hinting to vie using ODM Party.
 Investigations show there are expectations that some aspirants might forge alliances and support one of them while observers say others, who are yet to declare interest, are warming up for the next years general election.

 Those  known to be in the race include Frankline Makola who is Kathiani ODM chairman,Lawrence Ngovi alias Mbengo,Kathiani CDF chairman Robert Mbui,Mr Daniel Yumbya, the Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Practitioners Board,,Former Muvuti secondary principal Joshua Mutua Kimani and Stephen Muia Wambua.
Each candidate  is optimistic that he or she  will capture the parliamentary seat this season with resorting to heavy spending.
 Muia Wambua  says  he believes in a group achievement than individual interests. He pledges to streamline the agricultural sector and encourage horticulture as an alternative source of income.

Robert  Mbui,  the director of  Mutungoni Academy in Athiriver  and grandson of former Chief of General Staff Gen(RTD) Jackson Mulinge, who sponsors over 50 total orphans says he  is looking forward to  provide education scholarships and other  academic opportunities to bright children from poor families and disadvantaged communities.
 Kathiani Constiuency, formerly Iveti North,   was renamed ahead of the 1988 elections. In 1988 Laban Maingi Kitele was elected as the Kathiani MP  on a KANU one-party sysstem.
 In 1992,Jackson Kimeu Mulinge took over and in 1997,l Peter Kyalo Kaindi of SDPwas elected  and re-elected for a second term on a Narc ticket in  2002 . Wavinya Ndeti of CCU  was elected in 2007 as the first women to be elected as an MP in the larger Machakos District.
 In the last general election Wavinya Ndeti “Mama Kathiani” won the seat on the little known Chama Cha Uzalendo party, beating 17 male candidates.
 She and Water minister and Kitui Central MP Charity Ngilu are currently the only elected female MPs in Parliament from Ukambani.
