Machakos County is scheduled to setup a forensics lab to help curb crimes within the county.
Speaking with Director of public prosecutions Keriako Tobiko, Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said his government has agreed to come with a forensic laboratory that will be used to determine some of major crime cases within the county.

The move comes as crime escalates tremendously in Machakos. As we went to press, the county was still coming to terms with the execution of a trader named Mutua who was shot outside his house at Muthini Estate as his wife, Veronica, watched.
The thugs were making a return to his home exactly a week after they wrestled his wife to the ground after she walked home to find a man in balcava waiting. The trader now joins the growing list of men who have been killed in mysterious circumstance in Machakos and police is not explaining yet.
Governor Mutua said the construction of a forensic lab will be essential to woo investors in the county so as to drive the economy of the county forward. The governor added that his government has already allocated Sh100 million as seed money into the project adding that the DPP had advised his government on how to come up with an adequate forensics lab and investigation center.
“Our intention is to have a proper investigative unit in Machakos so that within 48 hours of a crime, somebody is arrested and the file taken to the office of the DPP with enough evidence to charge them.” Mutua said
Mutua assured that his government will work closely with the office of the DPP to ensure that it succeeds in the venture.
“We will take the DPP’s advice seriously and come up with a stakeholders meeting to discuss security in Machakos County, what needs to be done and how we are going to do it to meet the national standards.” the governor added
He added that his government is going to request the national government to use Machakos county as a pilot point to test what needs to be done in other counties regarding security and prosecution issues.
On his part Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko lauded Dr. Mutua for coming up with initiatives that will see the growth of the County.
“There is a direct link between security and development. There cannot be investment whether nationally or at the county level unless there is safe and secure environment.” Tobiko stated
Tobiko added that county governments play a critical role in ensuring the fight against crime adding that crime must be fought through establishment of forensics laboratory to ensure quick and adequate evidence for prosecutions.
