Driver charged over
death of 11 pupils

The driver of the truck that killed 10 pupils of a Mwingi School was today charged in court.
Mr Abdallah Hassan faces nine counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Sambu released him on a bond of Sh.5m with two sureties of the same amount. Alternatively, he will paycash bail of Sh 1m. .Mention of the case was set for August 20, 2018 where a for pre-trial conference will also take place.
The Road Traffic Accident happened at Kanginga bridge , about 1km from Mwingi town on Thika Garissa Road.
The bus collided with a Lorry before losing control, overturning and falling into the Kanginga river bed at around 11pm. The bus belongs to Nguutani S. School but had been hired to carry students from St Gabriel P. School, Mwingi for a School trip to Mombasa. The bus was travelling from Mombasa to Mwingi via Nairobi with 50 passengers and 1 driver..

Six Students had been dropped home just before the accident, leaving the driver and 44 passengers ( 40 Students, Three Teachers, the Matron and 32 students were injured and brought to Mwingi Level IV Hospital.
Six of them were in critical state while 26 are more Stable and on treatment. Police accounts say 8 Students died on impact and their bodies were brought to Mwingi LIV Hospital Mortuary by the Police.Two other students died while being treated.
The school matron, a teacher and bus driver are also admitted in hospital. Two teachers were treated for minor injuries and discharged.
