Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu today vowed that the County will not spend it's money outside Kitui
She cited cases where the county spend Sh.2.5 billion yearly to buy school uniforms from other counties, yet they can be made in Kitui.
She Called upon the Members of the County Assembly to stop critiscizing her move of shifting the venue of their meeting from Mombasa to Mwingi, telling them to promote local tourism.
She told them to forget spending county funds in hotels in other counties, which don't spend money in Kitui.
"If we need to kick out poverty from our community, we should learn or devise ways of doing things differently from the ways we've been doing them and stop the dependancy tendency on matters that we can do by ourselves." The county boss said.
"We have constructed a garment manufacturing factory at Syongila youth polytechnic, and taken 120 youths for a three month training course at Nakuru, who will be making all of our School uniforms in Kitui", said Ngilu.
She also revealed that Kitui is spending huge amounts of money on milk estimated at Sh.210 Million monthly. She said that she is laying down plans to end the dependancy on milk and its products in Kitui.
Ngilu said people living near permanent streams and rivers will be
given seedlings to grow vegetables which will be consumed locally to avoid dependancy on vegetables from other counties.
Governor Ngilu said this at Kyuluni Redeemed Gospel Church and reiterated the same at Miambani where she lead fundraisings for church constructions in the two venues.
