Ndeti's firm act in front of Ruto

Gov. Wavinya shows sticking act of courage

Machakos Governor today delivered a remarkable speech at a Presidential event telling off Kamba leaders who wash their dirty linen in public.

In a rare demeanor, she requested the President William Ruto to allow her speak in her vernacular to her people briefly to ensure the point she wanted to make was driven home. Ruto obliged.

It was a clear house keeping matter, Wavinya swiftly told leaders that this thing of washing our dirty linen in public was most retrogressive and  should end forthwith. She said petty political squabbles in public by Kamba leaders does not augur well for the community which had serious challenges to overcome so as to alleviate poverty and squalor.

The audience burst into wild applause  after she concluded her Kamba speech. The congregation came from all corners of the county where she secured almost 65 percent of the gubernatorial votes running on a Wiper ticket lead by Azimio leaning Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kalonzo, Raila Odinga Martha Karua and other Azimio leaders are clamouring for reforms and are simultaneously pressing for talks and Mass Action.

Wavinya said if it takes Ruto and the opposition to sit and talk," So be it", she thundered.

Her delivery dashed hopes for those who thought she would condemn her party and leader before the president, even as she has expressed her reservations for Azimio's approach to politics.

Azimio leaning Kamba MPs kept off the event.

Wavinya's showing today matched her elegant dressing.  The County chief  donned stylish head gear, a sparkling light blue flowing dress with a striking red cloth to blend with it over her left shoulder, making her stand out in the male dominated leadership Assembly.

Wavinya was in her element as she clearly outlined the journey she has embarked on with the people of Machakos as most of the leaders delved on partisan political talk that characterises functions attended by the president.

Notwithstanding, Wavinya had to midwife frosty relations between her predecessor CS Alfred Mutua and local UDA kingpin Vincent Musyoka Kawaya. She had to create space for Mutua to speak after Kawaya and event organisers ensured he had no chance.

She explained that she had approached the president on various development issues including water, roads and general infrastructure and her efforts were already bearing fruit and thanked the head of state profusely for that .

On Friday, the governor accompanied the president to Mavoko sub county of Machakos where he launched s the multi-million water and sewage upgrading project for the fast growing metropolis that Athi river has turned into.
