Policeman detained amid
rising crime in Machakos

A policeman remained detained at Machakos Police Station yesterday as robbery with violence charges were being considered against him.
The Machakos police Commander Issa Muhamud says the arrest follows an incident where the policeman allegedly attacked a Machakos University student and robbed him of his mobile phone and other valuables.
The officer- Kevin Sila had an accomplice identified as David Muringu when they accosted two university students as they headed to their rented quarters around Eastleigh area.The duo who were on a motorbike registration number KMTE 363W had flagged down the students in the wee hours of the morning before descending on one of them with resounding slaps as the other one escaped.
Other students responded to distress calls and rescued their fellow comrade from the wrath of the attackers, one of whom was discovered to be a police officer.
Thuggery has been spiralling in Machakos town and its residential districts with police alleging that students are to blame. The unending attacks have raised tensions in the area, leading to heightened alertness from the university community, leading to the arrest of the police officer.
