Imam protests Supreme Court LGBTQ stance

BY MUENI MUTUA.

The Supreme Court  ruling in favour of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual ,Transgender and Queer persons quest to be registered as a Non-Governmental Organization has been faulted by the Jamia Mosque Sheikh  Ali Annas Abdallah.

Speaking to The Anchor in Machakos Sheikh Abdalla pointed out that they respect the Courts decision however giving way for the LGBTQ community to be registered as a non-Governmental organization  would pave way for more Queer behavior in schools, adding that allowing such behavior  would  not settle well with the African Culture.

"We are not disrespecting our courts, but they should  respect religion, and we urge this idea to be completely banned to save the community" he added.

Sheikh Abdalla has now called on the Parliament to review this ruling and intervene on behalf of the community. This ruling was a result of a  case that was Petitioned at the High Court back in 2019,Where LQBTQ  activists moved to challenge  a decision by NGO's board not to register them.

This has now paved way for the organiZation to re apply to be officially  be registered  as an NGO despite the fact that this goes against the values of African Culture and Religion.
