MP Basil dismisses teacher enlisting

Yatta MP demands
fresh TSC recruitment

By The Anchor Reporter

Yatta Member of Parliament Mr Robert Basil is demanding the immediate revocation of the recent teachers recruitment in Machakos County that he terms as fraudulent.
The MP called for fresh recruitment exercise to accord justice for those who were left out unfairly.

The MP accused the Machakos County TSC director Lewis Mutegi of allowing mass malpractices in the whole exercise which left many qualified applicants unconsidered. "I am appealing to the country's TSC Director Nancy Macharia, to order for fresh recruitment to accord justice for the innocent casualties" said the MP.
He said it was unbelievable that those who graduated way back 2010-2011 were left out in the consideration list and  instead allowed  those who left colleges as recently as 2021-2022.
"This is an exercise that was full of corruption, favoritism and unprofessionalism and should be nullified to pave way for justice of those who were left out just because they could not raise to corrupt the system " he added.
The MP also lamented that teachers who had been transferred to their home counties and sub counties on medical grounds were send back to distant areas and replaced with outsiders through corrupt deals.
He said the government had earlier issued a directive for teachers who were outside their home areas be returned back but unfortunately for the case of teachers from Yatta they were ignored because of money exchanging hands.
"As Member of Parliament, l will stop at nothing until Justice is done for my people"  an angry MP reiterated. He as well demanded immediate transfer of the county director out of Machakos and be replaced with one who can serve people of the area  with dedication.
He however, exonerated the blame from the TSC officials in Yatta subcounty saying the officers played their part effectively and honestly.
Similar sentiments were expressed  by  the Yatta/Masinga branch KNUT Assistant treasurer Mr Richard Kitaka, who narrated how he witnessed day light graft in the whole exercise where the highest bidder carried the day. "We cannot accept such a scenario to slaughter our innocent people who after completing their studies for more than ten years, they are shortchanged  due to corruption" said the Knut official. It is alleged that applicants would pay up to Kes 200,000 to be hired but none of our sources wanted to be quoted in fear of being victimized.
He said many of the applicants who were supposed to have been considered but left out were aging and that if right measures were not taken to save them they may end up nearing retirement age without being employed and having wasted their efforts of going to school.
Mr Kitaka said teachers who were transferred to Yatta following government's directive to return teachers to their home areas were sacrificed through corruption with their places taken over by outsiders who paid hefty bribes.
Mr Kitaka backed the MP's proposal to nullify the just concluded exercise for fresh one to take place to give justice to the innocent casualties.
Contacted, the Director Mr Lewis Mutegi denied the role alleged to have been played by corruption but, admitted there were few anomalies which his office was in the process of resolving. The Anchor will keep its eyes on the story.
